Call for Presentations IS NOW CLOSED

Submission Deadline Extended to: Wednesday, June 30th 2010 at midnight EST

The WorldForum 2010 Program Committee invites researchers, practitioners, service providers, youth and other interested parties to submit abstract proposals for oral presentations, panels, workshops and poster presentations.

Each year the International Forum for Child Welfare IFCW (www.ifcw.org) holds an international summit known as the WorldForum, which is co-hosted by one of its member organizations. The 21st WorldForum is being held in New York, USA and is being co-hosted by The Committee for Hispanic Children and Families (www.chcfinc.org), and Mentoring USA (www.mentoringusa.org). Last year, WorldForum 2009 brought several hundred delegates from around the world together in Jakarta, Indonesia where 32 different countries were represented.

The 21st Annual WorldForum will challenge the global child welfare community to think about its work toward achieving the “Millennium Development Goals” and “A World Fit for Children” in the context of three global trends that have already begun to fundamentally alter the child welfare landscape and change operating assumptions.

Over the next several decades, we will have to grapple with the effects of three significant trends. DemographicsMajor shifts in population will profoundly reshape the world and the lives of children.  Advances in Pediatric NeurobiologyNew studies not only provide greater insight into the way children’s brains function, but also expand the deficiencies of childhood poverty to include bioethical issues as well as concerns of economic opportunity.  Greater Understanding of the Effect of Information & Communications Technologies (ICTs)on Sustainable Poverty Reduction: ICTs must take into account content, language, literacy, education, and community and institutional structures rather than access to technologies alone.

Today’s child welfare efforts face new challenges, as unprecedented global trends converge in ways that directly affect the lives of children everywhere and alter the impact of current programs. It is in a climate of added urgency that the IFCW gathers experts from around the world for its annual summit. Whether these new conditions are resolved or exacerbated depends on our decisions today, making it vital that the child welfare community join forces to share information, re-assess priorities and plan for future action.

The Program Committee invites submissions on the trends mentioned above, as well as the following sub-themes and cross-cutting focus areas:

Theme: “A World Fit for Children: Advancing the Global Movement”
